Major US daily The Washington Post has lauded Iranian Oscar-winner Asghar Farhadi's 'Everybody Knows' in popculture article.
The piece described Farhadi's new offering after Oscar-winning 'A Separation' and 'The Salesman' as "a film that feels so thoroughly Spanish," adding, the title will open in Washington on Friday and stars Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem.
The article highlights the Spanish feeling you can get by watching the film, quoting Cruz as saying that “When you see it, you forget that it is an Iranian director. You just see a Spanish film and somebody that doesn’t play with clichés.”
He added, “The critics, nobody could say anything bad about that in our country, because you saw our culture really reflected there by somebody that understood it very well."
Farhadi won Iran’s first Oscar in 2011 for 'A Separation' and another for 'The Salesman' in 2016.
The experience which Farhadi gained through making a film abroad was that he had to make changes to his movie script due to the cultural differences in two countries. Iranians are more mysterious and secretive about their past events while Spaniards are more comfortable discussing such secrets, the highlight cited Farhadi as saying.
Written by Farhadi, ‘Everybody Knows’ details the journey of a family from Buenos Aires to Spain for a celebration.
What was meant to be a brief visit is disturbed by unforeseen events that will completely change the lives of the members of the family.
